A certified translation is a translation supplied with a signed statement confirming it is a true and accurate rendering of the original, and includes the date, translator/company name and contact details — the elements UK authorities expect to see.

Certified translation (UK standard): For most applications to UKVI/Home Office, HM Passport Office, universities, councils and solicitors.
Notarised translation: A certified translation that is additionally witnessed by a Notary Public — sometimes requested by overseas authorities or certain legal processes.
Apostille/legalisation: Government authentication (FCDO) of a document’s signature/seal for use abroad (often after notarisation).
“Sworn” translation: Common in civil-law countries (e.g., Italy/Spain/France); the UK does not have a formal “sworn translator” system — we advise on the correct route for the destination country.

Not always. UK ENIC/Ecctis may require certified translations for some documents, but they also offer a Translation Waiver Service for specific languages and cases — meaning you can sometimes submit originals without translation. We’ll check eligibility and advise the fastest, most cost-effective route.
